About Urban Improv:

Urban Improv is an educational and youth development program that uses structured theater improvisation to teach decision-making, conflict resolution, impulse control, and values clarification. Founded in 1993, Urban Improv provides interactive workshops that challenge students to deal creatively with major issues in their lives. Improvisational themes include violence and conflict resolution, racism and discrimination, bullying and cyber bullying, substance abuse, peer pressure, harassment, homophobia, teen pregnancy, and stereotyping.

Job Description:

The Actor/Educator Intern will be working in a creative and collaborative ensemble that develops and present songs and scenes that are relevant to the lives of the elementary and middle school students in our program. A true passion for the mission and understanding of the community we serve are vital. Our Actor/Educator Intern should be invested in the youth they work with and strive to achieve the goals and mission of the program.

Job Requirements:

* Theatrical acting and improvisational skills

* Previous experience working with children ages 8-16

* Previous singing experience

* Experience working with a diverse population

* Spanish fluency a plus

Program Information:

Urban Improv workshops are held four days a week (M, W, Th, F) from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm starting in October and ending the first week in June. Our flag ship program is the Boston Public School Workshop series, which runs for 27 weeks. Urban Improv workshops are held during the school year at the Reggie Lewis Center and Vine Street Center in Roxbury.

Description

Rehearsal for Life uses theater as a vehicle for social change and has served over 80,000 young people in Boston and beyond. Our Urban Improv program helps Boston Public School students practice self-expression and creative decision-making in life's most challenging moments. Whether they're navigating peer pressure, cyber-bullying, racism, homophobia or violence, students develop self-awareness, empathy, impulse control, cooperation and conflict resolutions skills to succeed in school and in life.
