Neighborhood Centers is taking a part of a national campaign called "Fair Housing: Shared Opportunity in Ever Community Campaign." Housing discrimination based on national origin is an urgent issue for cultural and linguistic minorities. As a partner with NALCAB and National CAPACD, Neighborhood Centers is active in trying to stop housing discrimination and educate the public on fair housing protections under the law.

We are looking for advocates to help spread the word of Fair Housing. As an advocate you will attend community events to spread the word, collect stories about those who are facing housing discrimination, and become an expert in guiding our neighbors through the complaint process. The schedule varies from event to event, so there is no set schedule.

Join us in supporting this important campaign and in spreading the word on #FairHousing!

Mission Statement

BakerRipley, formerly known as Neighborhood Centers Inc. brings resources, education and connection to more than half a million people throughout Texas each year. For more than a century, we have offered innovative solutions to help low-income families in emerging neighborhoods get a foothold in the region’s economy. We work with residents in more than 70 service locations to help them discover the strengths and skills necessary to become productive, prosperous and self-sufficient. BakerRipley is a United Way agency.

Description

BakerRipley has a rich history in building communities that work since its early days when it was part of the Settlement House movement in the early 1900′s. When Alice Graham Baker founded the agency in 1907, the main intention behind it all was to help every resident of Houston have an opportunity for an education, for health, for work, and to become an informed participant in democracy.

100 years later, the purpose of BakerRipley hasn’t changed one bit.

What makes Houston so great are our vibrant and dynamic neighborhoods - the true engines of any metro. We believe that neighborhoods are the bridges between individuals and the regional economy. When we strengthen underserved neighborhoods, we can see how the quality of life is raised for everyone not just in that community, but the entire region.

We exist to keep our region a place of opportunity for everyone who is working for a better life.

BakerRipley is the largest charitable organization in Texas and hosts a network of over 70 services sites that helps more than half a million people each year. We fulfill our mission to bring resources, education, and connection by working with our neighbors side by side.

When we strengthen underserved neighborhoods, we can see how the quality of life is raised for everyone not just in that community, but the entire region.

BakerRipley is leading the way for building healthy neighborhoods across the country.
