The literacy crisis in Sacramento threatens to drastically impact this generation of children, their future and the future of our city. Sacramento’s literacy crisis requires bold action and massive public awareness. From the 2015 Walk4Literacy, $15,000 was granted to local programs positively impacting children’s literacy in our community. Our goal is to help every child reach grade-level reading. The Walk4Literacy is a collaborative project. Join us!

Mission Statement

Enhancing the Library's ability to serve the community by raising private funds.

Description

Since 1984, the Foundation has provided professional fundraising services to donors and has given the Sacramento Public Library nearly $11 million dollars. The Foundation's focus is on funding programs and projects that positively support children’s literacy. We are the largest, private group supporting the Library's fantastic Summer Reading Program. We have committed $125,000 toward the Summer Reading Program 2016 so that more children can access and benefit from the Library’s wonderful resources and outstanding, professional staff. Another focus area is that of the Children’s Literacy Endowment because we know that today's readers are tomorrow's leaders... and with the Library's 28 locations spread throughout the community, there is no better place for children to access such high quality, free and important programming. Finally, we are one of the presenting partners of the Walk4Literacy, a grassroots community effort to turn the page on local literacy levels. With only 1 out of 3 kids reading at grade level, we know that NOW is the time to turn attention and resources toward addressing the crisis.
