Another year of creating extraordinary art in unexpected locations, and bringing dance education to students who would not otherwise have access, is coming to a close-and we want to celebrate all we've accomplished!

A small sample of Heidi Duckler Dance Theatre's 2016 highlights:

  • Performed in the streets of Havana
  • Created work around Los Angeles on a 15-foot steel fish, raising awareness about environmental issues
  • Taught site-specific dance to youth and seniors in Inglewood, culminating in our first intergenerational public performance
  • Provided dance workshops for students in Korea via live-streaming video
  • Created a multi-disciplinary production inspired by months of interviews Heidi Duckler Dance Theatre conducted with Central Wholesale Market staff and vendors

And so much more!

Now we celebrate with our annual gala!

Join us Saturday, October 1, on the open-air patio at Michael J's in the heart of Chinatown. We'll start with a 7:30pm cocktail hour, followed by an 8:00pm dinner catered by Far Bar.

We're excited to honor two incredible people at the event!

  • Albert Wolsky, two-time Oscar winning costume designer
  • Maria Rosario Jackson, PhD, urban planner and President Obama appointee to the National Council on the Arts

Other fun stuff: live music by Erinn Monique & Beat Mosaic and a special dance performance-a sneak preview of an upcoming Heidi Duckler Dance Theatre piece!

Can't make it to the event or donate your time? You can also show your support with an ad in our program or by purchasing your ticket or table now, using this link

Mission Statement

Heidi Duckler Dance Theatre (HDDT) creates ephemeral contemporary art experiences in extraordinary places that boldly redefine the relationship between audience and art. Through cultivating innovative collaborations with artists, arts organizations and local communities, HDDT brings meaningful interdisciplinary dance to new audiences throughout Los Angeles and the world.

Description

Initially founded in 1985, HDD is a pioneer in producing interdisciplinary performances. The company develops and rehearses each multi-sensory experience in the site where the work is performed. HDD advances social equity in under-resourced communities by providing opportunities for audience members and students to interact with meaningful spaces, both public and private, that they may not otherwise have access to.

For over 35 years, HDD’s Artistic Director, Heidi Duckler, has created over 500 original works locally, nationally and internationally, including in many LA neighborhoods such as: Downtown LA (Arts District, Produce District and Fashion District), Boyle Heights, Koreatown, Hollywood, San Pedro and South LA. Duckler’s work has been internationally recognized in Hong Kong (Urban Arts Festival 2007), Russia (International East-West Arts Exchange 2010), Montreal (Transatlantique Quartier 2013), Germany (Tanzmesse, 2014 & 2018), Australia (Brisbane Festival 2014), Cuba (Ciudad en Movimiento 2016) and Chile (Puerto de Ideas 2018). This year HDD was awarded grants for upcoming programs including; LA County Department of Arts and Culture, City of LA Department of Cultural Affairs, Mid-Atlantic Arts Foundation, City of West Hollywood and Culver City, California Community Foundation, California Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts. HDD produces over 25 original productions each year and thousands of diverse residents are served annually.
