The Shelter Staffing Specialist screens volunteer applications, contacts and interviews applicants, returns inquiries from the phone and website, and reviews applications for applicant interest and compliance with volunteering policy. Reviews include, but are not limited to, the age of applicant (and application of parent/guardian if under age 18), the applicant's availability for shifts, whether the minimum of a six-month commitment will be met, and whether volunteering is a result of court-mandated community service. The person in this position should have at least 3 months of experience as a shelter caregiver, demonstrate an understanding of the interview process and techniques, especially as they apply to discrimination and disabilities and have organizational skills to ensure that all tasks are completed, all applications are appropriately reviewed and forwarded, and records are properly maintained.
