This position will fulfill a gap for the residents living in NeighborWorks Boise’s affordable multi-family apartment units. Lower income households are usually those who can’t access daycare or other after-school care, and are the families whose children are alone from the hours after school until their parents arrive home later in the evening. By engaging these students after school it helps keep these children out of trouble, encourages them to do homework and study, and develop meaningful relationships outside of school. Through effective outreach and community/resident engagement this position can potentially become a valuable friend and mentor to these students and families who utilize this service on-site in the community centers.

Wednesdays children in Nampa get out of school earlier, so Wednesday is the ideal day for this position. It is flexible and can be other days.

Suggested Avtivities include:

○ Arts & crafts

○ Homework help/tutoring

○ STEM education opportunities

○ Physical activities (outside games, indoor games, sports)

○ Financial Literacy or English Language skills tutoring

Benefits/Support Provided for the volunteer:

• Getting to know people from another country, build relationships/friendships, build community.
• Opportunities to network and the volunteer to build their resume.
• Help improve student’s school test scores (if tutoring kids), getting to know the youth in the community.
• Ownership of the after school program (ability to craft the program or add to an already established program).

The organization will provide: materials for arts and crafts, computers with access to the internet for after school tutoring, paper, pencils, coloring utensils, scissors, after school snack, a community space with tables and chairs, and youth participants.
