Love comedy?
Then this volunteer position or board of director opportunity might just be your favorite gig yet.
We’re a fun, mission-driven nonprofit looking for a seasoned legal eagle with serious chops in entertainment law-and a deep appreciation for the creative process.
We need someone who can roll up their sleeves and:
- Advise us on legal matters
- Negotiate, draft, and close rights and services agreements
- Navigate the legal side of pre-production and development
- Vet creative content
- Help us stay on track with board compliance
Bonus points if you have production legal experience and understand the unique needs (and growing pains!) of entertainment-based nonprofits.
We’re especially interested in connecting with law firms that offer pro bono assistance to orgs like ours-firms that get what it means to hustle in the arts while making an impact.
Time Commitment:
Flexible! We know lawyers are busy superheroes. Ideally, you'd be available for a quick monthly check-in (virtual is fine!) and reachable via email if a legal question pops up. Some months might be light, others might need a little more love-like contract review or board compliance check-ins.
Board/Volunteer Term:
We’d love someone who can stick with us for at least two years. That gives you time to fall in love with what we do.
Availability:
Mostly virtual, but if you ever wanna swing by a show and laugh your legal briefs off, we won't stop you. In fact, we’ll save you a front-row seat and a fistful of popcorn.
What You Get:
- A chance to support the arts in a unique way
- Impact lives through laughter
- Be part of a passionate, diverse, mission-driven team
- Occasional comedy show cameos, probably unpaid, possibly unforgettable
#1 requirement: You must love to laugh.
(Seriously, if you don’t laugh at least once a day, we’re probably not your people.)
Let’s talk!
Again, virtual is fine, but nothing beats witnessing stand-up while silently judging our liability waivers.

Mission Statement
Using the Power of Laughter to Build a Better NYC NYLaughs is a 501(c)(3) performing arts nonprofit that brings stand-up comedy to NYC’s public spaces--free and accessible to all. We believe comedy isn’t just entertainment; it’s an essential art form that reflects the city’s diversity, resilience, and soul. Our mission is to create joyful, inclusive, and communal experiences through live performances that foster connection and celebrate comedy as a cultural force. By removing barriers to access, we spotlight underrepresented voices, strengthen community ties, and remind New Yorkers that laughter can heal, unite, and uplift. From parks to plazas, we’re turning sidewalks into stages and neighbors into audiences. Because in a city that never sleeps, we all need a good laugh. A laughing New Yorker is a better New Yorker (and way less cranky on the subway)!
Description
NYLaughs: We Bring the Funny. For Free.
NYLaughs celebrates stand-up as a vital, highbrow cultural asset while keeping it raw, real, and radically accessible.
We spotlight diverse voices that reflect NYC’s vibrant fabric. Our shows aren’t just about laughs-they’re about connection, resilience, and turning strangers into neighbors, one joke at a time. From seniors to kids, recovery groups to comedy nerds, our audiences mirror the city: wide-ranging, unexpected, and delightfully weird.
We do this because stand-up is more than punchlines-it’s therapy, it's truth-telling, it's communal joy. Laughter boosts mental wellness, builds bridges, and yes, it’s cheaper than therapy.
We dream of becoming the Public Theater of comedy-elevating the art form while keeping it rooted in the people. Whether it’s a comic performing with their baby strapped to their chest or someone hugging us after a show, we know: laughter is magic.
No drink minimums. No velvet ropes. Just joy, free for all.
So pull up a lawn chair, donate if you can, and follow us into the funniest future NYC's ever seen.
