Help our 8th graders create a top-notch high school application essay for the high school of their dreams!
As a volunteer, you will have the opportunity to learn more about a student's hopes and dreams as you interview them and record their answers to common high school application questions regarding their life, academic interest, passions, and family! Volunteers will provide feedback, and help edit and revise for a stellar final product.
This opportunity is perfect for energetic volunteers that have a passion for writing, listening to others, and enjoy leading conversations. Volunteers that feel comfortable transcribing are also encouraged to apply!
Volunteers will be trained onsite and First Graduate staff will facilitate, support, and provide all session materials during both workshops.
Part 1: October 28th, 9:30 am to 12:30 pm
Part 2: November 18th, 9:30 am to 12:30 pm
*To better assist our students, attendance to both workshops is required.
To sign up, please contact Karina Gutierrez at kgutierrez@firstgraduate.org, AND be sure to fill out the volunteer information form at firstgraduate.org/volunteer.
Wait, did you say high school application?
First Graduate recruits students from public middle schools in the SFUSD. Once it is time for students to transition to high school, First Graduate helps students apply to the right high schools where they can become strong college candidates and gain the academic skills necessary to succeed in college. Students in San Francisco must apply to a high school because all high schools are city-wide schools. So even if a student chooses to continue to go to public school, they will need to put together a top-notch application to get into the more competitive high schools.
