What is Second Harvest?

Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida is a private, nonprofit organization that collects, stores and distributes donated food to more than 550 feeding partners in six Central Florida counties: Brevard, Lake, Orange, Osceola, Seminole and Volusia. Last year, with the help of numerous donors, volunteers and a caring, committed community, the food bank distributed 43 million meals to partner programs such as food pantries, soup kitchens, women’s shelters, senior centers, day care centers and Kids Cafes.

Volunteer at Second Harvest consists of sorting donations, helping prep healthy snacks in their kitchens or packing family emergency boxes.

What is RSVP?

RSVP is a federally funded volunteer program for older adults 55 and older. RSVP you with essential volunteer opportunites to support community needs. Over 20 local nonprofit organizations depend on RSVP for volunteer support.

As a RSVP volunteer you choose what kind of volunteer assignment you want and when you want to volunteer. Opportunities range from supporting local hospitials, manning food pantries, teaching an adult to read, mentoring students, delivering nutritious meals to shut-ins and much more.

There are also short-term opportunities for those who wish to volunteer but don't want a scheduled activity.

Mission Statement

Our mission: "Improving Lives Through Volunteerism."

Description

We are the leading organization for senior volunteerism in the greater Central Florida area, serving Orange, Osceola, Seminole and Volusia counties. Just last year, 1,186 caring adult volunteers gave 438,683 hours of service. That is more than $9.5 million dollars worth of volunteer service being poured back into our communities.

Previously known as Florida Senior Programs, VCI has been the sponsoring agency for the REtired & Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) and Foster Grandparent Programs since 1977. Our 36 year presence has proven our aptitude for providing meaningful and impactful volunteer experiences.

VCI provides membership benefits and support to volunteers aged 55+, at no cost to the volunteers or their volunteer stations. Just a few of the benefits of membership include: Supplemental insurance while volunteering, a dedicated coordinator, and matching to find the perfect position to fit the interest of the volunteer.
