We are looking for active and retired Veterans of all ages, ranks and service affiliations to provide emotional support for their fellow Veterans at the end of life. We are growing our program titled We Honor Veterans which focuses on the specific and unique needs of Veterans as they face the end of their lives. One of the greatest parts of that program involves the availability of Hospice trained Veterans (we do all the training at no charge!) to provide a listening ear, supportive shoulder or comforting hand to our Veteran patients who request a fellow Veteran to visit them. Our Veteran Volunteers will also be able to conduct pinning and certification ceremonies by the bedside of our dying Veterans. This work is very important and very special. Please let us know if you'd like to be part of this program and team!

Mission Statement
At Hospice of Frederick County, we offer a unique approach to care for those in the advanced stages of life-limiting illness. When quantity of time is no longer possible, we focus on quality of life. We strive to treat the whole person, and view the patient and family as a unit. By managing symptoms, easing emotional and spiritual pain, and honoring our patients' and families' priorities and personal choices, we assist individuals to live out their remaining days in peace, comfort and dignity, while supporting those they love as well. Our patients and their families often tell us that our unique approach to their care gave them back a sense of control and a different kind of hope for the future.
Description
Hospice of Frederick County was founded in 1980 by a group of community volunteers who wished to offer compassionate support to terminally ill patients and their families, and to those who were grieving. Hospice is not about how you die, it is about how you live.
Over the years, the program has grown in size and scope, but our focus remains the same: to honor each person's journey through illness or grief with dignified care, compassionate support and gentle guidance.
Hospice of Frederick County is a non-profit organization and also a division of the Frederick Memorial Healthcare System that is Medicare-certified, licensed by the state of Maryland and accredited by the Joint Commission.
Hospice of Frederick County is a member of the Hospice and Palliative Care Network of Maryland, and the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization.
