The Nyingma Institute in Berkeley has an immediate opening for a Marketing and Promotions Coordinator. Nyingma Institute offers classes, workshops, and retreats on meditation, Kum Nye Tibetan yoga, healing, and traditional Buddhist practices.
We are an all-volunteer run educational organization with a mission of making ancient wisdom available to the modern world, and an unusual approach to work as a form of spiritual practice. If you’re excited about sharing classes that help people find de-stress and find meaning in their lives, this may be a good fit for you.
Schedule & Time Commitment
We are a non-profit organization comprised of full-time volunteers who work 6 days a week.
Minimum commitment is 1 year, with a trial period of 2 weeks.
Classification & Compensation
This is a full-time volunteer position with shared rooms, all meals provided, access to classes, and a $150/month living allowance.
Job description includes:
Design, coordinate, and send email marketing newsletters and campaigns.
Identify, maintain and grow our social media presence. You must understand social media platform management tools.
Develop content for social media
Maintain and update marketing databases, including client/contact mailing lists, email distribution groups, and invitation/guest lists.
Post class and event info online
Maintain and update the website with new classes, etc.
Working with Google Grants and Adwords
Additional responsibilities may include:
Develop and run fundraising campaigns
Develop new outreach strategies
Assist with front desk duties and classes and events as needed
Act as digital internal historian
Distribute flyers locally
Skills:
Strong graphic design skills.
Excellent writing, research and communication skills, with strong attention to detail.
Social Media expertise, including blogging, Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter.
Minimum 2 years professional experience in marketing, public relations or communications; Bachelor’s degree in related field such as Journalism, Integrated Marketing, English, Advertising or Public Relations preferred.
Strong writing skills, including proofreading and editing experience.
Knowledge of media production, communication, and dissemination techniques and methods, including alternative ways to inform and entertain via written, oral, and visual media.
Experience with project management.
This is an excellent opportunity for the right person to join our hardworking, dedicated all-volunteer team. We ask for a 1-year initial commitment. The first month will serve as a non-binding trial period, after which the arrangement may be reassessed and amended. We work 6 days a week, 8 hours each day and approach work as a form of practice.
We offer shared room and board, access to morning meditation sessions and evening classes, and a small stipend. You need not be Buddhist to apply, just open and comfortable with living respectfully in a Buddhist setting. All meals served from our kitchen are vegetarian, and we ask that there be no smoking or intoxicant use on site.

Since its inception, the mandala of TNMC has grown with a long list of accomplishments. The Guna Foundation was created in 2009 to share the accomplishments of the TNMC mandala with the world, and to ensure that its valuable work to save the Tibetan culture is able to continue long into the future.
Using dynamic digital media, we seek to share the profound vision of our founder, Venerable Tarthang Tulku for the Tibetan Nyingma lineage in the West.

The Guna Foundation archives historical footage; creates web media, photo exhibitions, and promotional material; and produces documentary films all in-house at our studio in Berkeley, CA.
