The Nyingma Institute in Berkeley has an immediate opening for a Marketing and Promotions Coordinator. Nyingma Institute offers classes, workshops, and retreats on Tibetan meditation, Kum Nye yoga, healing, and traditional Buddhist practices.

We are an all-volunteer run, non-profit, educational organization with a mission of making ancient wisdom available to the modern world, and an unusual approach to work as a form of spiritual practice. If you’re excited about sharing classes that help people find de-stress and find meaning in their lives, this may be a good fit for you.

Job description includes:

  • Design, coordinate, and send email marketing newsletters and campaigns.

  • Identify, maintain and grow our social media presence. You must understand social media platform management tools.

  • Develop content for social media

  • Maintain and update marketing databases, including client/contact mailing lists, email distribution groups, and invitation/guest lists.

  • Post class and event info online

  • Maintain and update the website with new classes, etc.

  • Working with Google Grants and Adwords

Additional responsibilities may include:

  • Develop and run fundraising campaigns

  • Develop new outreach strategies

  • Assist with front desk duties and classes and events as needed

  • Act as digital internal historian

  • Distribute flyers locally


  • Strong graphic design skills.

  • Excellent writing, research and communication skills, with strong attention to detail.

  • Social Media expertise, including blogging, Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter.

  • Minimum 2 years professional experience in marketing, public relations or communications; Bachelor’s degree in related field such as Journalism, Integrated Marketing, English, Advertising or Public Relations preferred.

  • Strong writing skills, including proofreading and editing experience.

  • Knowledge of media production, communication, and dissemination techniques and methods, including alternative ways to inform and entertain via written, oral, and visual media.

  • Experience with project management.

This is an excellent opportunity for the right person to join our hardworking, dedicated all-volunteer team. We ask for a 1-year initial commitment. The first month will serve as a non-binding trial period, after which the arrangement may be reassessed and amended. We work 6 days a week, 8 hours each day and approach work as a form of practice. We offer shared room and board, access to morning meditation sessions and evening classes, and a small stipend. You need not be Buddhist to apply, just open and comfortable with living respectfully in a Buddhist setting. All meals served from our kitchen are vegetarian, and we ask that there be no smoking or intoxicant use on site.
