Completing the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) is an important step to make college a reality but is often overwhelming for students. At an I KNOW I CAN (IKIC) FAFSA workshop, volunteers assist Columbus City Schools (CCS) students and parents to complete their applications for financial aid. Whether you are an experienced financial aid professional or brand-new to the world of financial aid, you can be part of the IKIC FAFSA workshop! Submitting a FAFSA is a top indicator that a student will enroll in college - as a volunteer, you’ll help CCS students complete this important milestone on the path to college!

Description of Duties

  • Prepare and submit FAFSAs with students and/or their parents
  • Answer students’ questions about the financial aid process
  • Speak with students about college funding options from I Know I Can

Time Commitment

Weekly workshops occur on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from October 2016 - June 2017. Weeknight workshops are held at different CCS high schools from 6-8 p.m. Saturday workshops are held at various locations and times. Final dates and locations coming soon.

You choose when and where you can serve by registering on IKIC’s website. There is no minimum or maximum.

Training

You must complete a training session before your first workshop. We hold training sessions in person and virtually to make it as convenient as possible for our volunteers. Previous experience with FAFSA preparation and financial aid is helpful, but not required. Our comprehensive FAFSA training session will provide you with all the information needed to help CCS students complete the FAFSA. You will also learn about IKIC’s college funding opportunities for CCS students.
