Mission Statement

To significantly reduce the Veteran and civilian homeless population in the Hampton Roads area by providing the necessary resources to the less fortunate so they may build productive and sustainable lives.

Description

We are proud to say that 100% of our received donations and resources go right back into the community - to those it is intended for. We have been able to provide hot meals, other donated food items, clothing, furniture, etc. We strive to leave no one behind or untended, and in that regard we network with other local resources to find housing, education, employment, and all things necessary to build a sustainable life. Our future goal is to establish a self-sustaining community called the Triumph Garden. The Triumph Garden will not only give former homeless a sense of belonging, but will provide housing, job training and job placement inside and outside of the community, and give an opportunity for a self-sustaining life.

This triumph will enable homeless to learn to take care of their community, by working with agriculture and livestock. In addition they will learn a trade in order to be able to gain employment outside of the community. The result of the community oriented Triumph Garden will be the regaining of their dignity and self-respect, A New Beginning. Most importantly, the community members of the Triumph Garden will not be dependent on the state or have to find a homeless shelter to lay their heads, but they will become a contributing member of Gloucester County. We have established a homestead, which serves as a pilot project to identify the feasibility of this type of engagement. So far, the pilot has been extremely successful.

Phoenix - A New Beginning's mission is not a hand out, but a Hand Up.
