The Sanctuary provides a calm, nurturing environment for children during one of the most traumatic moments in their lives. These children, ages 0-12, have just been removed from their homes for their own safety by Child Protective Services. The Sanctuary serves up to five children at a time, for up to 72 hours per child, in a homelike environment.
Our Sanctuary volunteers are mature, enthusiastic, caring, and reliable. They interact and engage with children and help provide a stable, nurturing environment.
Together we:
Help children feel safe, well-nurtured, and prepared for their next step into a relative, foster, or foster-adoptive family placement.
Provide trauma informed supportive, compassionate care for children through play, meal preparation, field trips, and assistance with daily living activities.
We’d love for you to join us if:
You are over the age of 21
Have some experience with kids (does not have to be formal work)
Complete the comprehensive training and certification process.
Timeframe and commitment
The Emergency Sanctuary operates 24 hours a day.
Volunteers are asked to volunteer a minimum of 1-2 shifts per month and each shift generally lasts about 6 hours.
We ask volunteers to make a commitment of 12 months due to the length of training involved in this opportunity.
We are looking for volunteers who are able to have a consistent regular schedule, but we also love flexible, reliable volunteers who are available to take on open shifts on an as-needed basis.
