The volunteer provides additional support to the hospice patient and/or their family under the supervision of the Volunteer Program Coordinator at the patient's home or residence at a facility. Patient care volunteers support the patient and/or their family in a variety of ways, including but not limited to the following:

  1. Serve as a companion to the patient (chit chatting, playing cards, watching movies, reading together, doing arts & crafts, etc.)
  2. Provide caregiver relief for the patient's caregiver so they are able to take a break and take some time for themselves.
  3. Provide light housekeeping, lawn care, snow removal, grocery shopping or errands.
  4. Provide licensed services including massage therapy, haircuts, photography, and more.
  5. Share your musical talents with patients either as one-one-one visits or larger performances for care facilities.
  6. Share your artistic abilities with patients by doing one-on-one art projects or by leading group activities at a residential facility.
  7. Bring your pet (cat, dog, rabbit, etc.) to visit with patients and/or their families. Pet must have all appropriate licensing, vaccinations, etc.

Requirements & Commitment

  • Background Check
  • Must be at least 18
  • Orientation or Training
  • 1-2 hours a month
  • Requirements: 18+; pass a background check and TB test; a waiting period of one year after your own
