Mission Statement

Epiphany Productions Sonic Dance Theater is a performing arts company that erases the traditional boundaries between dance, theater, and music and fuses together different themes in innovative and surprising ways to tell stories on the stage and in the street.
Our mission is to develop dynamic, cutting-edge work that is accessible, relevant, and engaging, and that communicates through dance, theater, music, emotion, and intellect.

In addition to providing low-cost public access to live art, we strive to expand and educate audiences for dance and to foster inter-cultural communication through artistic collaboration. Epiphany Productions is known for the excellent quality and highly theatrical nature of its work and for its commitment to building community through performance, art making, and education.
Most recognized for our annual San Francisco Trolley Dances festival held along a different MUNI/Metro light-rail line every October, we also provide year-round local, national, and international Master Classes and workshops as well as an annual San Francisco home season.

Description

Artistic Director Kim Epifano has a 25-year history as an award-winning choreographer, director, performer, and educator. Since founding Epiphany Productions in 1997, she has choreographed, directed, and created music for multiple evening length works of "sonic dance theater." Her pieces have been presented by Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, Switzerland’s TanzOlten Festival, and have been commissioned by LeVerage Dance Collective, Wise Fools, Mexico’s Parallelos 32 Co., and Ireland’s Croi Glan Integrated Dance Co., among others.

Epifano has developed a distinct voice that integrates politics, storytelling, dance, theater, and music into celebratory works that often function as a sharp analysis of our time. In addition to choreographing EPSDT’s annual home season in San Francisco, Epifano curates San Francisco Trolley Dances, entering its 10th Anniversary season in 2013. In the 80’s & 90’s, Epifano was a key member of two of San Francisco's most noted dance companies: the Dance Brigade and Contraband. She received her MFA in Choreography from UC Davis and has more than 15 years of experience teaching dance at the collegiate level.
