Locations: Manchester, CT
Hours: Saturdays from 9:00am-1:00pm, Fall 2016. Volunteers are needed for eight consecutive weeks.
Depending on your role, your tasks may include:
* Oversee classes for BrightStart Workshop (8-week session)
* Work with volunteers to cover each classroom with a head teacher and staff, and supervise children's workers
* Work together with workshop coordinator to determine the size and number of classes to offer each session
* Oversee classroom supplies and order materials as needed
* Supervise set-up and take down of classes
* Interact with families
Impact: By serving with this volunteer opportunity, you will be helping young children become socially, emotionally and academically prepared for kindergarten by collaboratively increasing the scope, quality and impact of local family-based programs and services.
In order to volunteer you should be:
* A registered Urban Alliance volunteer (you will have the chance to if you haven't already)
* 18 years or older
* Open to an ongoing volunteer commitment that works with your schedule
* Willing to attend an orientation and submit a BHF volunteer orientation
* Willing to interact with others
* Available in September
* Able to use Google Documents for scheduling
* Responsible, friendly and organized
* Patient, honest and extremely dependable
* Able to work well with a small team under the direction of the head classroom teacher
A background check will be required to be placed with this volunteer opportunity.
