Cut + Haul Buckthorn at Grey Cloud Dunes SNA

Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: Friends of the Mississippi River

Join Friends of the Mississippi River staff in the southern portion of the SNA Saturday, November 5, 9-11 a.m. After a brief orientation, volunteers will help cut and haul invasive buckthorn from the worksite to make way for native habitat.

Due to tool usage, including loppers and saws, this event is not suitable for youth. As this a special type of park is meant to protect rare, fragile plant and animal habitat, Grey Cloud SNA does not feature such amenities as trails or restrooms.

Capacity is limited, in part to tread lightly on this special place but also to make sure everyone has a chance to ask questions about the site's ecology and the many native plants. Mission Statement

Friends of the Mississippi River (FMR) engages people to protect, restore and enhance the Mississippi River and its watershed in the Twin Cities region.

Description

Friends of the Mississippi River is proud to work with roughly 3,000 volunteers annually.

We keep volunteering simple, fun and satisfying -- there are no applications, and you can sign up for one event or several. We list events especially in need of volunteers here on VolunteerMatch.com, but maintain a full calendar of 60+ events a year at www.fmr.org/events.

Our project work includes conservation and restoration of natural areas and habitat, education on watershed protection issues, and organizing activities that connect the public to the Mississippi River.
