Washington Autism Alliance and Advocacy's mission is to help people with autism and other developmental disabilities thrive. One way we aim to achieve this, is through our Friendship Matters! social program for teens on the autism spectrum.
We are looking for a new lead facilitator, with experience running social communication groups that support inclusion and community engagement for teens on the spectrum. Friendship Matters! is not therapy, but rather focused on friendship building and creating opportunities for teens to hang out in a safe, structured environment, with the guidance of a trained socail skills facilitator and support staff. The group does a variety of activities, from playing interactive board games, shopping at Redmond Town Center, going out for pizza and ice cream, games at a local park, movies, and more.
We are looking for a Speech Language Pathologist, or a professional from a related field, who is intersted in continuing this program we have grown. Since our co-facilitator is female, we want the facilitator we bring on to be male, to balance the group dynamic. Primary responsibilities include prepping for the weekly group, being fully engaged and leading the group (with the aid of a co-facilitator), and sending a wrap-up email to all participant's parents each week. WAAA handles the overall coordination and participant registration/screening. Friendship Matters meets weekly on Thursdays from 4-5:30 p.m.
WAAA is able to provide partial compensation for your time. Facilitator is responsible for submitting regular invoices.
