The Desmond Tutu Center needs a verity of volunteers to help host the DTC Conference, SUSTAINING GLOBAL CHANGE: HEALING AND LIBERATION.

General Volunteer information:

Time Commitment: shifts of 4 hours.

Important Dates: Conference on November 11-12 and a training night beforehand (date TBA)

Free conference participation (other than during the volunteer’s shift(s)) for those who volunteer at least 4 hours
Networking with a wide variety of socially conscious community leaders
Food provided for volunteers

Volunteer positions and specific information:

  1. Position Title: Floater
    Purpose: The Floater will be available to help with quickly retrieving, communicating, or executing tasks that arise during the conference.
    Key Responsibilities:
    Being present in assigned locations
    Being flexible, open to taking on any issues that may arise.

  2. Position Title: Desmond Tutu Center information Volunteer
    Purpose: Will help provide information on the DTC and its upcoming events and initiatives.
    Key Responsibilities:
    Staff a table of DTC information
    Help distribute Desmond Tutu Center information in or before sessions by placing "save the dates" in auditorium chairs and doing other similar tasks.

  3. Position Title: Information Volunteers
    Purpose: The information center will be a hub and main point of contact for conference attendees to have questions or issues addressed and dealt with. Volunteers will be posted at the DTC information table during theconferenceandatkey location to greet and inform attendees during arrival and transition times during the conference.

    Key Responsibilities:
    Needed to be present at the main info hub at designated locations during the conference.
    Will serve as a main point of reference for attendees issues, needing directions around the venue, directions to the venue, help with transportation, etc.
    Will be responsible for answering a phone or texts that is the main point of contact for attendees

  4. Position Title: Photographer
    Purpose: Will help capture needed photographs of the conference.
    Key Responsibilities:
    Photograph shots of all sessions
    Photograph Shots of attendees for later conference promotion

  5. Position Title: Welcomer
    Purpose: Will be stationed at doors near parking lots and at the entrance to the auditorium
    Key Responsibilities:
    Be present at assigned stations when folks are arriving, and at the auditorium at the beginning of sessions.
    Help direct people to registration and to sessions.
    Assure all in attendance have proper credentials, if they do not, politely explain the policies of the conference.
    Need volunteers at chapel parking lot entrance, fountain entrance, and auditorium entrance.

  6. Position Title:Keynote Speaker Point Person
    Purpose: Will assist the speaker however possible and serve as their single point of contact
    Key Responsibilities:
    Will be the single point of contact for one of our keynote speakers
    Will be needed primarily to pick the speaker up from the airport, help them with transportation, getting to lodging and to and from the conference each day.
    Will be the point of contact if the speaker has issues.
    Will need to have a meeting with DTC director about this position and the speaker you will be helping before the conference.

  7. Position Title: Registration Volunteer
    Purpose: Will help attendees to register and receive appropriate credentials for the conference
    Key Responsibilities:
    Be present at the the registration table to help attendees check in and receive credentials
    Help prepare registration materials and information packets

  8. Position Title: A/V Assistant
    Purpose: To help assist with and address and A/V or tech related issues that may arise for session leaders and help with Q/A
    Key Responsibilities:
    Being present in assigned sessions
    Assisting session leaders with A/V or Tech related issues that may arise
    Helping to assure that all rooms A/V are operational before the conference
    Assist in Q/A portions of sessions by bringing microphone around

Description

The Desmond Tutu Center is North America’s only academic center in a university and seminary context named for Archbishop Em eritus Tutu is a collaborative effort of Butler University and the Christian Theological Seminary. The center, launched on September 12, 2013, will focus on leadership development in social justice and reconciliation, international relationships, and interreligious bridge-building.
