Do you like meeting new people from other countries? As a Help Desk Volunteer, youwill meet and engage with those approaching ASSIST for support.
As part of the Help Desk Team you will help to provide information to potential clients at a weekly drop-in session for asylum seekers. Your role will be to interview asylum seekers within the busy environment, using interpreters where required. You will provide information, signpost the asylum seeker to other agencies, make a referral within ASSIST, and provide support to enable the asylum seeker to move forwards.
You need to be positive about working with diversity and cultural difference. You need to be friendly, a good listener and have good verbal communication skills. You need to be able to respect confidential information and record information clearly, and you need to be able to stay calm in a busy environment.
