At Mama’s Kitchen we believe that everyone is entitled to the basic necessity of life - nutritious food. As a community-driven organization, we provide nutrition support to men, women, and children affected by AIDS or cancer who are vulnerable to hunger.

Mama's Pantry, a service of Mama's Kitchen, provides a free monthly shopping opportunity to low income HIV+ San Diego County residents.

Volunteers participate in food drives at two local Ralphs locations on the first and third Sunday of each month. Prospective volunteers are asked to attend a volunteer orientationn prior to commencing service. Dates and times are available at www.mamaskitchen.org.

Volunteers distribute fliers to shoppers as they enter the stores which explain who we are and how they can help. Shoppers participate by purchasing one or more of the items on our wish list and depositing it in one of our on site food bins.

Sign up is via email sent 10 days before the scheduled food drive.

Description

What We Do

With the tremendous support from our caring community, we prepare and deliver nutritious meals for our neighbors struggling with AIDS or cancer who are too sick to shop and cook for themselves. Together with hundreds of volunteers, businesses, and community supporters, Mama’s Kitchen strives to help our clients stay healthy, preserve their dignity, and keep their families together by providing free, culturally appropriate home-delivered meals, along with pantry services and nutrition education.
