ALL VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES ARE IN-PERSON OPPORTUNITIES IN SAN MATEO COUNTY. Interested parties must be able to come to our training in-person and volunteer in-person.
The StarVista Crisis Center has great volunteer opportunities!
Volunteer on our 24-hour Crisis Line. Provide an empathic ear to callers, do crisis intervention, and offer referrals. No experience necessary - we train! Volunteers receive extensive training and ongoing support as they broaden their knowledge base and hone their listening skills. Excellent opportunity for those interested in the counseling or psychology fields, or for those who just want to give something back to their community.
Volunteer Requirements
* Must be at least 21
* At least a one-year minimum commitment
* Able to take at least one 4 hour per week
* Must be able to attend volunteer training (Tues & Thurs evening and one Saturday; 5 week training)
Crisis Center staff knows that the agency simply could not operate without our dedicated volunteers. We greatly value each of them. We do everything we can to make sure that your investment of time and energy will be well worth it.

Description
The Crisis Intervention & Suicide Prevention Center (Crisis Center) is a program of Youth & Family Assistance. Forabout 50 years, the Crisis Center has been the only 24-hour suicide and crisis hotline in San Mateo County. We also operate the county's Alcohol and Drug Helpline and offer the area's only Survivors of Suicide group. And finally, our Youth Intervention Team does crisis assessment and intervention to at-risk youth in schools.
