Help KCLS by assisting with Wednesday afternoon programming at Foster Library. Most Wednesdays November 2 - June 7, 2017.
Volunteer duties primarily include: interacting with children (8 and older) and teens with the direct support of a children’s and/or teen librarian, supervising a snack table, distributing and collecting supplies, reading instructions aloud, and for two of the sessions, saving computer files to flash drives.
Other than basic computing knowledge (the ability to save a file to a flash drive and open and close computer programs), no special technical skill is required. More important than anything else, volunteers for this position should have strong social skills and patience. The children and teens we work with at this location are primarily English language learners and many are recently arrived refugees. In these library programs, our primary goal is to provide opportunities for building cultural knowledge, as well as language and social skills. Positive learning experiences are more important than creating a finished product.
