Are you a former United States military service member looking to bond and continue to serve other former military members?

If so than SSM Health at Home Hospice might be what you are looking for through its unique program called We Honor Veterans. The We Honor Veterans program was developed by the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization (NHPCO) and Veterans Affairs to empower hospice professionals and volunteers like you to meet the unique needs of dying Veterans and their families.

The program is simple and focuses on respectful inquiry, compassionate listening and grateful acknowledgement of former military service.

The opportunity is simple - respectful acknowledgement of former military service from a veteran peer. Once the patient is identified the Military Veteran volunteer will print a certificate of appreciation place it into a frame for presentation (provided) and take it to the Veteran patients home as a recognition of the patient’s former military status. To date we have visited nearly 300 veterans in the St Louis Communities. We visit veterans from the WWII, Korean and Vietnam eras, but that is not all - We visit ALL those who have worn the uniform.

680,000 veteran patients die annually; that is 25% of the dying population - that is 1800 veterans a day and we are there through it all.

If you miss the life of service to others and the camaraderie of our shared sacrifice then this might be the opportunity for you. You will be assigned a patient area in your community so the travel will be minimal. Through this Vet to Vet program you will be able to serve Soldiers, Sailors, Marines, Airmen and Coasties in your local community.
