Amanda the Panda hosts Grief Support Groups four times a year. Each Support Group meets on Monday evenings for six weeks. Amanda the Panda provides a simple meal for the families who attend. This supper for our families gives parents/caregivers a reprieve and helps to eliminate at least one task they would've otherwise had to accomplish before arriving. It also provides a comforting, home-feeling to our families entering into grief services.
Volunteers are needed to help prepare, serve, and cleanup the kitchen each of the six Monday nights of Support Group. Volunteers and groups (3-4 people) can provide the food and prepare the meals, or they can prepare food that Amanda the Panda will provide for the evening. Volunteers would need to arrive early enough to prepare the meal for the evening, which is typically around 5:00-7:00pm.
The ideal volunteer should have the ability to help with light meal preparation, serve meals to 25-50 people, wash dishes/run a dishwasher, be personable, be friendly, and be reliable. Volunteers will need to fill out a volunteer profile and go through a background check.
If you are interested in volunteering to provide, prepare, and serve meals for our Support Group families, please email mmondt@everystep.org.

Mission Statement
We empower individuals, support families and strengthen communities.
Description
EveryStep, formerly known as HCI Care Services & Visiting Nurse Services of Iowa, has been offering care and support for Iowans for many decades.
Our roots date back to 1908, when a group of nurses saw the need for public health nursing in Des Moines and founded an organization to fulfill that mission.
Since then, EveryStep has led the charge to address a wide variety of vital community health care and social service needs, offering prenatal support and home visits to new moms, assistance to immigrants and refugees, compassionate hospice and home care services, and grief and loss support.
Today, EveryStep has a strong reputation and a long history of serving vulnerable populations to help them live their best lives. Today, the non-profit’s 30 plus programs, more than 370 employees and nearly 900 volunteers offer care and support to Iowans in 47 counties.
