Do you ever wish you had someone who helped you figure out what YOU wanted to do after high school? Do you see potential in youth and want to help them achieve their goals?
Canby High School’s ASPIRE (Access to Student Assistance Programs In Reach of Everyone) program matches trained volunteer mentors to work individually with students to help them discover training and educational opportunities and find ways to pay for those opportunities. With the assistance of our Career Center staff, ASPIRE mentors guide students through important steps toward post-secondary education. ASPIRE is open to all Canby High School students.
The commitment level is up to you! Our hope is that mentors meet at least twice a month with students during the school year (October - June). We do the scheduling for you! Mentors meet with students Tuesdays-Fridays and can set their own schedules. Typically, mentors meet with students for 10-15 minutes and can determine how many students they would like to see on a given day.
- Pass a background check;
- Be at least 18 years old and a high school graduate;
- Be comfortable working with a wide range of students from different backgrounds, cultures and languages;
- Be willing to share your "story" with students on your own education and career choices.
Please note: you do not have be a college graduate to be a mentor! We train you to know the right questions to ask and how to assist students with accessing the information they need to further their careers and post-secondary education.
