Why should you become an AYSO Downton San Jose Assistant Coach?

Coaching children is a very rewarding experience. And helping coach your own child's team can be one of the most rewarding experiences of all! Assistant coaches are pivotal to having children get the AYSO experience. If Regions don't have enough coaches and assistant coaches, registration is scaled back and kids who want to play in AYSO are turned away.

Coaches are essential to the game. They teach children soccer skills and help develop a healthy, positive attitude, teamwork and good sportsmanship. Coaching is a rewarding experience because you have the opportunity to build a child's self-esteem, help them learn new skills and just have a lot of fun.

Do you have little or no experience with soccer? No problem! AYSO will teach you, based on the age level you are coaching. Unique age-appropriate coach training is one of AYSO's specialties. If you plan to be at your child's soccer practices and games, you'll also have time to be your child's coach.

Description

AYSO Region 1631 is a non-profit soccer league serving families in downtown San Jose, California. Our league is 100% volunteer-run! We are growing our wonderful team of volunteers. Come join us!

COACHES teach age-appropriate soccer skills and help kids develop a positive attitude, teamwork, and good sportsmanship. Coaches run practices 1-2 times per week in the evenings and one game per weekend for a 10-week season in Spring and Fall. New coaches can be paired with mentors, and we offer ongoing training.

REFEREES provide a safe, structured soccer experience for our weekend games. They keep games running smoothly and help players learn the rules of soccer. Referees help with weekend games on either Saturdays or Sundays and have no commitments on weekdays!

CLUB VOLUNTEERS help keep our league running smoothly. They help at special events, update our website manage finances, paint lines on our fields, manage equipment, and so much more. Hours are minimal and flexible for club volunteers!

No soccer experience? No problem! We provide all of the training, equipment, and support you need. High school and college students can get credit for school-required volunteer hours.

Learn more about our league at www.ayso1631.org and contact Laura at rc@ayso1631.org to get involved. See you out on the field!
