Position Profile

A Girls on the Run(r) Board Member must possess a passion for and commitment to improving the lives and opportunities of girls in third through eighth grades. Girls on the Run is a physical activity-based positive youth development program (PA-PYD) that uses running as a vehicle to influence positive social, cognitive, physical, emotional and psychological assets and development. Over the course of the program, girls will: Develop and improve competence, feel confidence in who they are, develop strength of character, respond to others and oneself with care and compassion, create positive connections with peers and adults, and make a meaningful contribution to community and society. Such life skills will prevent unhealthy and risky behaviors, such as physical inactivity and negative body image, and promote positive health outcomes (e.g., physical, mental, social, and spiritual health).

General Responsibilities

  • Prepare for and attends all Board meetings
  • Makes a serious commitment to participate actively in Board work including:
    • Fundraising for the organization
    • Participating in end of season 5k events and Lunafest
    • Volunteering for and willingly accepting assignments and completing them thoroughly and on time
    • Annual planning and evaluations
    • Leverage personal and professional experiences to further the mission
  • Attends one volunteer training to be trained as a volunteer
  • Serves on at least one standing committee
    • Stays informed of committee matters, prepares well for all meetings, and reviews comments on minutes and reports
  • Gets to know other Board and committee members and builds a collegial working relationship that contributes to consensus
  • Contributes a minimum of $500 annually
  • Commit to serve in the position for three years

Specific responsibilities of the Treasurer

  • Is a member of the Executive Committee
  • Oversees thorough and accurate set of books and paying bills (cash book, ledger, bank accounts, checking accounts, stocks/bonds etc.)
  • Overseas the filing State/Federal financial reports in timely manner
  • Give Board a regular & complete treasurer’s report at meetings or other scheduled specific times. It is the Executive Directors’s responsibility to demand report is submitted if it is not forthcoming.
  • Provides annual budget to Board to Board for member’s approval
  • Ensures development & Board review of financial policies and procedures

  • Ability to construct, articulate, and implement annual strategic and development plans
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Sincere commitment to work collaboratively with all constituent groups, including staff, board members, volunteers, donors, program participants, community members, and other supporters
  • Ability to work both independently without close oversight and also as a team player who will productively engage with others at varying levels of seniority within and outside GOTR of Franklin County
