Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: American Red Cross

We need volunteers to help install smoke alarms, complete fire safety checklists and create fire escape plans with local families at a Smoke Alarm Installation & Home Fire Safety Event. You can join as an individual or with a team. Volunteer registration and training takes place at the event Base Camp, after which volunteers set out in teams of three to canvas the neighbourhood. Breakfast and lunch is provided to event volunteers.

American Red Cross Home Fire Campaign
The Red Cross Responds to a Home Fire or Other Disaster Every 8 Minutes. That is why we launched the Home Fire Campaign, which aims to reduce the number of fire-related deaths and injuries by 25 percent by 2020. Home fires are the greatest disaster threat to American families. Seven people die every day from home fires. A fire-related injury is reported every 40 minutes. Annually, home fires cause 2,500 deaths and roughly $7 billion in property damage. Our goal is to reduce the number of fire deaths and injuries in the U.S. by 25 percent within the next 5 years.
