Volunteer Manager - MoKan Greyhound Adoption

The Volunteer Manager is meant to help grow the volunteer base and utilize the organization's volunteers to their fullest potential. This position will be a highly visible position that is part of the leadership team but, will not be a board position. We need someone who will be present and truly engage with our adopters and volunteers.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in developing this position
  • Engaging with new adopters and encouraging them to become volunteers, getting to know the current volunteers in order to help keep them engaged.
  • Check and respond to MoKan e-mail at least once a day.
  • Check MoKan’s Facebook page and groups at least once a day.
  • Assist Event Coordinator in staffing adoption events.
  • When to Help: Serve as an administrator on the When to Help volunteer scheduling software which includes keeping the volunteer data up-to-date including special skills and interests, adding volunteers to the database, training volunteers to use the database, adding events, sending event announcements and reminders, keeping hours up-to-date, running reports and more. Assists in staffing events and fundraisers.
  • Filing: Maintain volunteer records and making sure that active volunteers have signed liability releases, submitted a volunteer questionnaire, emergency contact information and foster agreement if applicable and any other pertinent information.
  • PetPoint: Update PetPoint with volunteer data and status
  • Volunteer Recognition: Develop and conduct volunteer recognition program and prepare for and conduct quarterly volunteer drawing at volunteer meetings
  • Assists in the development of new volunteer programs and initiatives when applicable, suggests possible training opportunities and speakers for volunteer meetings
  • Responds to volunteer and potential volunteer e-mail and phone inquiries
  • Consults with board and committee chairs to determine the organization’s need for various volunteer services and watches for opportunities to match volunteers to appropriate jobs seeking to fulfill the needs of the organization as well as the individual.
  • Assures all volunteer communications are kept up to date on the website, brochures, manuals, forms, job descriptions and other printed materials. Keeps volunteers up-to-date on any changes in policy or procedures or relevant education opportunities.
  • Additional duties as it makes sense

Qualifications:

  • Ability to listen, think clearly and creatively, problem solve, work well with people individually and in a group, act as cheerleaders, mentors, and guides to the other volunteers and adopters.
  • Good interpersonal skills, effective phone skills, effective written and oral communication skills, willingness to get to know the adopters and volunteers, ability to meet and deal tactfully and effectively with volunteers and the public.
  • Ability to use tact, initiative, prudence and independent judgment within general policy, procedural and legal guidelines.
  • Ability to effectively present information to public groups, and/or boards of directors.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in computer skills, organizational software, skills with the internet, and standard office applications. Ability to train other volunteers also useful.
  • Helpful but not required: knowledge of supervisor techniques for volunteers, motivation and decision-making techniques.
  • Helpful but not required: Skill in teaching and mediating disputes and solving problems.
  • Helpful but not required: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

Description

MoKan Greyhound Adoption is a 501(c)3 non-profit corporation. We serve the Kansas City metropolitan area. We do accept volunteers needing service hours for high school or college but, we do not accept volunteers needing court mandated service hours.
