Immediate openings: Volunteer with the Greenburgh Nature Center to assist in curriculum development, staffing, and assessment of our new "Explore, Discover, Connect", a unique nature immersion program for kindergartners utilizing the many varied ecosystems and outdoor learning opportunities on our 33 acre nature preserve.
Volunteers will be required to attend 1 day of orientation and training during the week of September 19 - 23 (to be scheduled). Regular hours will be a combination of Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 12 noon to 4 pm starting September 27 through December 22, 2016, with possible extension into Spring.
Volunteer candidates can be students of early childhood/elementary education or related fields, with a strong interest in nature-based learning. Description
The Greenburgh Nature Center (GNC) is a 33-acre nature preserve with trails, a pond, an old orchard succession site, and gardens. More than 70,000 visitors come to the GNC each year. The property is a significant wildlife habitat refuge, both for indigenous species and for the hundreds of species of migratory birds that use it as a resting place on their spring and fall travels.
The GNC hosts birthday parties and special programs for groups of all ages on a wide range of environmental topics, either here or at off-site locations. We also offer numerous outreach and on-site environmental education programs for children, adults, and families.
