ORGANIZATION: Cornerstone Assistance Network

Cornerstone Assistance Network wants to place a Go Center Coordinator VISTA (Volunteer in Service to America) at Tarrant Churches Together.

Pay: $990 per month BEFORE taxes

Tarrant Churches Together (TCT) is a 501(c)3 non-profit that connects congregations and the community to bridge divisions, build unity, and address needs together. We are based in Fort Worth, Texas. We network with and bring together congregations and community organizations to engage initiatives and events that cross divisions of race, class, faith, denomination, and political perspective. Our focus is on building relationships that connect experience, skills and resources with community needs - and create an environment of collaboration and cooperative action. Our large network includes city entities, school districts, non-profits and professional organizations. In addition to a few other events and initiatives that center on building unity across racial and faith lines, we have a strong focus on addressing high-school incompletion through Go Centers located in congregations nearby local schools. Our Go Centers offer both academic and social support through the help of tutors and mentors, along with use of computers and online access to resources at no cost to students and families. The Go Centers are located in specific congregations and are designed to offer help and academic support to students in Title1 and low-performing schools as well as build mentoring relationships that will encourage students toward high-school completion and college. We partner with local schools and build congregational networks of support around them that can bring relevant resources to schools and the students and families connected to them.

The VISTA will serve with our Go Center program in the Morningside area of Fort Worth & help staff, partner churches, & community organizations to develop & implement a parent & student engagement event. You will also address the need for connection, cooperation & collaboration among schools, students, families, congregations & community entities. You will serve to facilitate relationships, coordinate the work of the Go Centers, connect regularly with the schools, & function as a communicator & collaborator to reach students and families in the Go Center areas. Tasks include meeting regularly with Go Center site coordinators, principals, counselors, & teachers of local schools; reaching out to pastors & members of churches to interpret the need for student support; recruiting volunteers & resources; visiting the Go Center to determine how they are running & planning quarterly events - 2 for coordinators/2 for students-to bring Go Center participants together.
