Shaker Sisters

SUSV is establishing a new initiative Needle and Thread Sewing Partners:Interpretive Costume Construction and invites YOU to join our team in sparking curiosity for and contemplation of our nation's past through your sewing talents. Get started today and enjoy a fulfilling activity that works around your schedule!

Sewing Partners will work with site historians to reproduce a historically accurate menu of apparel to be worn by interpreters during special events throughout the year.

What you need to become a Sewing Partner:

Garment Construction Know-How

Sewing Equipment

Willingness to Learn About Period Clothing for Men and Women

Ability to Collaborate with Site Staff

Reliable Transportation

85% of this volunteer opportunity can be completed from home, but members of the onsite team encourage Partners to work at the village as much as they would like. For those who prefer to work on their own, occassional visits to the village for fittings etc. will be necessary.

Mission Statement

South Union Shaker Village preserves and maintains the site of the Shaker Society which once existed at South Union, protecting the buildings, landscape, folklife, and material culture. The buildings and grounds are employed to further the interest of the public in historic preservation and Shaker history. SUSV sponsors continuing programs of an educational and cultural nature.

Description

For over 40 years South Union Shaker Village has welcomed visitors from around the world to explore the 500 acre village. It is through the dedication of our volunteers and supporters that we do extraordinary things.
