Do you like working with children? Are you studying to be a teacher, child psychologist or other direct service position? The White Plains YMCA is currently looking for volunteers to help staff our Childwatch service. Childwatch is a free babysitting service that the White Plains YMCA offers its members throughout the week and on weekends. For many of our families it is difficult to find time to exercise while finding a baby sitter to watch the kids. This program allows us to take this pressure off of these families and to provide a safe and enriching environment for their children. Childwatch is available for children ages 2 and up, Mondays through Fridays from 5:30PM to 8:30PM and weekends from 8:30AM to 2:30PM. Parents using Childwatch need to be on site to use this service.
Childwatch volunteers are responsible for monitoring children in our Childwatch center and ensuring that they are securely checked in and checked out of the facility. This is not necessarily a direct service position. While Childwatch volunteers are welcome to engage the children in play, the most important responsibility is to ensure that check-in/check-out procedures are followed. For older children, volunteers can provide homework help or other similar services. This is a great role for young adults studying to be teachers, interested in working in an education facility or other similar direct service roles. Please note that this is a walk-in service so usage of the service may fluctuate. Childwatch volunteers may be engaged in other parts of the facility if children are not using the service. All volunteers must consent to a background check before they are permitted to volunteer at the YMCA.
