ORGANIZATION: Solar Cookers International

  • 1 person is interested

By virtue of its special consultative status with ECOSOC since 1996, Solar Cookers International enjoys the privilege of participating in the work of civil society at the United Nations. SCI is granted five (5) annual grounds passes for its United Nations reps, plus seven (7) temporary three-month passes annually. Ideally, SCI will be able to engage a full slate of participants to further the work at the United Nations.

All reps are passionate about solar thermal cooking energy solutions for the world's poorest 1 billion people, and the nearly 3 billion people who cook over biomass fires. All reps must be motivated, out-going, network professionally, create productive working relationships, and speak out to promote SCI's mission and agenda at the UN. SCI reps display tact and diplomacy in all contacts.

All representatives cultivate strategic relationships at the request of the main rep or SCI staff with focused activities. Will promote SCI's strategy of promoting solar thermal technology for cooking as essential to the success of the Sustainable Development Goal #7: access to clean, affordable energy. Lives near United Nations New York. Able to identify and pursue partnerships with aligned, high-impact organizations for the purpose of contributing to zero draft, oral and written statements in support of Goal 7 and others. All reps assist with advocacy to missions during the zero draft revision periods during CSW.

Mission Statement

The mission of Solar Cookers International (SCI) is to improve human health, economic well-being, women’s empowerment, and the environment by promoting climate-friendly solar cooking for vulnerable populations worldwide. We work to solve the problem of inadequate household energy facing nearly 2.4 billion people on our planet. Since human health, quality of life, and environments are affected by cooking fuel choices, we offer a solution to the difficult choices nearly half of all families make every day: whether to buy fuel or to buy food and other family needs. The sun’s free energy is a viable solution for all who live where the sun shines. Solar cooker technology is a sustainable and environmentally responsible tool that helps families fight poverty and disease, and changes women’s and children’s lives for the better. Join us in empowering more women to improve their lives by learning how to cook with the sun.
