A mentor is described as one who guides another to greater success. For the 1st & 2nd Graders at Blake Academy in Lakeland, it means having an adult buddy who can encourage them and help them learn by spending extra time with them that is not available in the formal classroom.
Mentors will be provided with an individualized outline of activities to work with their students on Language Arts or Reading basics. The Mentoring Program meets from 12:05 p.m. - 1:05 p.m. and 1:40 p.m. - 2:40 p.m., daily Monday - Thursday, beginning Septermber 12, 2016 and the program will continue through the end of the school year. Mentors may select days/times that work best with their schedules.
For first-time Polk County school volunteers: Stop by our office & complete a School Volunteer Application. There is a cost of $25 to cover the cost of the required background screen. Individuals who are already approved as Polk County School volunteers, will not need to pay the $25.
