Join us for the kickoff event of our new native plant garden team, the Native Plant Guardians! Mount Diablo’s native plant garden is one of the jewels of our park, acting as a refuge for native plants and wildlife and as a valuable educational resource for park visitors. The day will begin with a brief natural history lesson, focusing on the flora and fauna of the Mitchell Canyon area. Then, we’ll work on making improvements to the walkways and infrastructure of the native plant garden. Projects will include widening the walking path to improve wheelchair accessibility; constructing a raised garden bed; and building stone walls and benches. Meet at the native plant garden, located just behind the Mitchell Canyon Visitor Center. FREE CAMPING is available Friday, September 30 - Sunday, October 2. RSVP: silas.ellison@parks.ca.gov.
