You will work with middle school students in small groups (4-7 students). These are long term English Language Learners in a class that supports the development of academic language skills and college readiness. The students are primarily in the "academic middle" with high potential, but some academic struggle. Many aspire to be the first in their family to attend college. Students bring questions they are confused about in a specific text to their scholar group. The tutor facilitates the group of students in a supportive process, where students learn by asking each other questions and reading a text closely. Students not only enhance their language skills, but develop critical thinking and problem solving abilities. Training is provided for you, the tutor, in this highly effective, research based method, which was developed by AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination - see www.avid.org for more information). Have the satisfaction of helping an adolescent develop their language and college and career readiness skills.

Upcoming training dates beginning in September and running through February. Begin working with students in Fall 2017. Make a difference in just 1-2 hours a week! All tutoring times are during the school day, between 8 AM and 4 PM.
