Are you interested in development and communications? Would you like to learn more about fundraising, social media, and public relations in the nonprofit sector? Are you passionate about supporting the needs of the homeless and those at risk of homelessness?
If so, The Light House is looking for someone just like you!
It is the mission of The Light House to rebuild lives with compassion by providing shelter and services to prevent homelessness and empower people as they transition toward employment, housing, and self-sufficiency. Ninety percent of our budget is generated through private donations from individuals, foundations, and corporations. Our Development and Communications department maintains records of all contributions, stewards donors, and oversees communications.
The Light House is seeking interns in our Development and Communications department. Interns will be trained on record management, generating thank you letters, and communications strategies.
Intern Needs and Characteristics
Input gifts, pledges, and information about donors into database
Prepare thank you letters for the Executive Director’s signature
Spearhead new communication campaign with the support and guidance from members of the Development and Communications team
Maintain consistent schedule of 10-20 hours per week during office hours (Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM)
Detail-oriented, focused, and committed to maintaining confidentiality of donor information
Familiarity and comfort with computers
All ages welcome, must have reliable transportation
Enthusiasm for the mission of The Light House is essential

Description
The Light House provides shelter, transitional housing, and permanent supportive housing to individuals and families who are experiencing homelessness. A staff of case managers works one-on-one with residents to develop individualized transition plans so that residents are able to make use of programs and services at The Light House, including GED training, fnancial literacy, job training in the culinary arts and facilities maintenance and landscaping, resume writing, interviewing and a variety of other services that help residents move towards employment, stable housing, dignity and independence. The Light House also provides bags of groceries, eviction prevention services, and other support services to community clients who are at risk of becoming homeless. Many of our programs and services operate with volunteer support.
