School Food Project Lunchroom Education

It's flexible! We'll work with your schedule.

6500 E. Arapahoe Rd.Boulder, CO 80303

There are several ways to participate in our nutrition education programs at elementary, middle, and high schools throughout the district. We can also prepare volunteer projects for students to come in and work with me in the office at the BVSD Education Center, located at 6500 Arapahoe Ave.

The lunchroom events are either Tastings or Rainbow Days. These events take place in school cafeterias between 10:45 am-1:30 pm, depending on the school's schedule. Volunteer time commitments are 2-3 hours per event. Tastings introduce students to new foods and provide food samples of menu items that students may not be familiar with. We offer samples in hopes the students try it, like it, and buy school lunch when they see the item on the menu. The Rainbow Day events are geared at the elementary-age student and encourage healthy eating by getting students to "make a rainbow on their plate" and eating at least three different colors of fresh fruits and vegetables.

There are also opportunities to help out in the School Food Project office preparing educational materials, mailings, etc. These office projects provide an opportunity for volunteers to become familiar with our lunchroom education materials such as Harvest of the Month Collector Cards. Fridays are the best day for those projects.
