Are you a creative cook, excited to share knowledge and enthusiasm around food with local students? The Rainier Beach High School (RBHS) Cooking Club Assistant Leader works with Seattle Tilth’s Community Kitchens Northwest (CKNW) program manager to lead and support students at Rainier Beach High School’s weekly after-school cooking program.

Responsibilities:

Help program manager:

• Set up kitchen classroom before students arrive and take inventory regularly.
• Build and maintain a fun, inclusive and student-centered learning environment for 12-15 participants.
• Support kitchen flow and food preparation as needed.
• Assist with menu planning and recipe development, based on feedback from students.
• Facilitate cooking activities and interactive nutrition education with participants.
• Practice and encourage general kitchen management including food safety protocols and first aid.
• Work with students to clean kitchen after cooking.

Qualifications:

• Background in cooking, nutrition, social work, youth development, or related fields.
• Clear, consistent and timely communication.
• Experience and comfort working with high school students.
• Familiarity with Rainier Beach neighborhood/community (preferred).
• Current WA food worker permit (strongly recommended).
• Successful completion of RBHS-conducted background test.

Important Dates and Deadlines: Priority will be given to applications received by September 7. Interviews will take place the week of September 12, and the volunteer will begin on September 20.
