ORGANIZATION: Hi-Hope Service Center

  • A group opportunity. Invite your friends.
  • 4 people are interested

To be clear, this opportunity DOES NOT take place at 882 Hi-Hope Road. That is the address for our main campus and administrative center.

Hi-Hope maintains 5 group homes throughout Gwinnett County. For a variety of reasons, 2 of the homes receive very little volunteer support. We are looking for a very special individual or small group to take on one of these two locations and start developing a relationship. The first home is located in Bethlehem, GA on Indian Shoals Road and is home to 4 men. The second home is located in Snellville, GA on Lee Road and is home to 4 women.

Our goal is to develop a long term relationship between you, the volunteer, and the folks in these homes. The residents of both locations have fairly high support needs and most do not communicate verbally, which means that any volunteer will not be able to get a lot of feedback. That being said, you need to be the type of person that is ok just knowing you are making a difference by being there. You will work directly with the Volunteer Coordinator to come up with short term activities that focus on relationship building and interaction. This is a very simple, very easy, very impactful, very meaningful volunteer activity.

If you want to make a difference, reach out today!

Mission Statement

Hi-Hope Service Center supports adults with developmental disabilities by building and sustaining individual independence.

Description

In 1960 the parents of six young students from Gwinnett County founded one of the first organizations in Georgia to teach children with intellectual disabilities. Under the capable leadership of Mrs.Vinie Lowry and support from many parents and the greater Gwinnett Community construction of a special needs school was completed in 1970. A special needs preschool was added subsequently. In the late 1990’s when all student programs, including the pre-school program, were integrated into the public schools, Hi-Hope became an adult only program.

Today, Hi-Hope Center carries on the founders' legacy of caring and innovation by supporting adults with developmental disabilities by building and sustaining their independence.
