11th Hour Volunteers sit by the bedside of actively dying patients, providing a compassionate presence at this critical juncture.
Being present for those who are dying can mean holding a hand, adjusting the lighting in the room, reading quietly to the patient, playing soft music, supporting family who are at the bedside, giving staff a much needed break, and advocating for the patient when necessary.
The 11th Hour Volunteer Team may be called upon at the last minute to provide this much-appreciated service to our patients/families. Sometimes the shifts run through the night, sometimes a few hours here and there. This type of volunteering is intermittent, but sometimes intense for short periods of time. It's an excellent volunteer opportunity for those who want to help with hospice, but can't commit to regular ongoing visits.
