If you're handy around the house, know a little something about electronics and appliances, or just simply enjoy fixing things, come to Community Forklift! Our staff need some extra hands to take on testing, cleaning, and servicing the lights and ceiling fans that get donated to us.

You might make sure some warehouse lights are in good working order before they go on to someone starting their first small business. Or you could fix a vintage chandelier that will help someone restore their old home. Or even just the plain ol' ceiling fans you test might be donated to a family in need trying to stay cool. No matter what you end up helping us with, you're going to be making an impact on our local community and the environment!

Interested volunteers must first participate in a 90-minute orientation and training with our receiving and processing staff. Time and date TBD by volunteer and staff availability.

Work boots preferred.

Thanks for your interest and we hope to work with you soon!

Mission Statement

Community Forklift is a nonprofit reuse center that lifts up our local communities in many ways! We make repairs and renovation more affordable for homeowners, nonprofits, small businesses, and everyone else in the DC metro region. Our environmental impact is twofold: not only do we reduce waste by saving these materials from landfills and promoting reuse, but in turn we reduce the mining and harvesting of dwindling natural resources as well. The Forklift has also added 45 "green collar" jobs to the local economy, provides free public education about sustainability and green living, and donates materials free-of-cost to neighbors in need and local community groups.

Description

Community Forklift is a nonprofit reuse center for home improvement supplies. We accept donations of surplus and salvaged building materials throughout the metro DC region and make these items available to the public at low cost.
