Employment program volunteers provide direct client service to support refugees as they adjust to life in America and guide clients toward integration in the American workplace. The position will assist refugees in preparing for, locating, and obtaining employment. In addition, volunteers will assist with job readiness training. Volunteers will provide a comprehensive scope of employment services including but not limited to assisting clients with identifying short and long term employment goals, creating resumes, completing online and traditional job applications, filling out new hire paperwork, assisting with coordinating required drug tests and/or completion of criminal background investigation forms for employers, coordinating client transportation to job interviews, ensuring client knowledge of bus routes related to their place of employment, and providing assistance to clients requesting job upgrades. Support is provided to individuals and families. Volunteers may work with and through interpreters.

Founded in 1933, the International Rescue Committee (IRC) is a voluntary organization providing relief, protection, and resettlement services for refugees and victims of oppression or violent conflict. The IRC assists refugees resettling in the United States by providing basic necessities as well as education, employment, and social services. The IRC branch in Garden City, Kansas opened its doors in January of 2015 and has since guided 136 newly arrived refugees toward self-sufficiency. As a young office with a vision for growth, the IRC Garden City continues to bring refugees from harm to home.
