Due to the amount of clients we serve, there are many needs to be met behind-the-scenes. On-call volunteers may be asked to help us:
1) Set-up apartments before refugee families arrive. This entails transporting and loading furniture into the apartment, assembling and dressing beds, arranging toiletries and kitchen utensils, cleaning, and completing apartment inspection sheets. Volunteers who own trucks and can move heavier furniture pieces are extremely helpful.
2) Welcome refugees at the airport. Volunteers will be notified of a family’s arrival and can greet them as soon as they step off the plane. Pick-ups will take place at Garden City Regional Airport.
3) Prepare for and run special events. We may need extra assistance for upcoming events and fundraisers.
On-call volunteers will be added to an e-mail list and will be notified about opportunities to serve. Volunteers should be dependable and timely when they have agreed to help. On-call volunteers will always be accompanied by an IRC case worker.
