Position Description: We’re looking for a friendly, energetic adult volunteer who enjoys interacting with children and their caregivers to be our Friday Morning Storytime volunteer. Our new Inclusive Storytime, for children with autism or learning differences, will be held in Mitchell Park Library’s Midtown Room 11:30am-12pm every Friday morning, beginning in mid-April. The storytime will combine books, songs, movement, sensory play, and therapeutic activities that incorporate the five senses. Experience with and knowledge of children with learning differences is a plus, but not essential.

Status: Unpaid volunteer position

Days and times needed: Fridays 11am-12:15pm (or 10am-12:15pm if you also want to help with Toddler Storytime)

Storytime Volunteer Responsibilities:

-Greet storytime attendees and help them find their nametag

-Take a count of all attendees each week

-Help the librarian hand out and clean up touchable items (scarves, shaker eggs, etc)

-Assist as needed with other activities: holding the parachute, blowing bubbles, etc.

Candidate requirements:

-Must be an adult, age 18 or older

-Must be willing to be fingerprinted, at no charge to the volunteer

-Must commit to volunteering every Friday morning (with the exception of vacation or illness) for at least 6 months
