**Please note this is a 12-month position based in Ethiopia for October (flexible).

In alignment with the Federal Ministry of Health mandated Health Management Information System directives, Benishangul Gumuz Regional Health Bureau (BGRHB) is striving to implement a computerized HMIS system across the region. All health offices and health centers in the region are equipped with computers, specifically for the purpose of e-HMIS. However, the program is not fully functional; some woredas are not linked with the server based in the BGRHB due to either lack of internet services in their area or lack of functioning network infrastructure in their offices. Consequently, data is not being sent nor accessed from the main server.

This position will support the (BGRHB) team to establish appropriate ICT infrastructure in the region in order to effectively and consistently capture HMIS information so that programming decisions are informed by context specific data. The Advisor will also support ICT development and strategy development within the BGRHB and will support the development of the RHB website

The volunteer will

  • In collaboration with BGRHB staff, assess HMIS infrastructure and management gaps and develop strategy to address gaps
  • Support and advise on strategizing future developments in the electronic health management info system
  • Improve the network administration
  • Develop website, database, and other ICT developments as required
  • Train staff on ICT literacy

Essential Academic Qualifications
  • Degree in IT / Software Engineering

Essential Professional Background/Competencies
  • Network infrastructure installations and administration
  • Basic software and hardware maintenance
  • Health care information management
