ELM Dancer

Educated Little Monsters: Dance Instructor Position

ELM Dance includes a mix of ballet, lyrical/contemporary, and Hip Hop styles, in small classes with 3-8 students, ranging from 7-17 years old. The program is very youth-led, students are encouraged to choreograph their own pieces. Students have the opportunity to share their work at youth showcase events every few months.

The ELM dancers are very creative and driven; what they need is an expert to guide their technique and push them towards excellence.

As with all departments of ELM, culture and history is a big part of the dance program. The students are all Black and Brown, and it's very important that they can see the connections between their culture, their neighborhood, and the genres of dance they practice. Teachers would be invited to collaborate with the Program Director to infuse their class with cultural history.

Classes take place on Tuesdays and alternating Thursdays and Fridays in the evenings. A volunteer instructor could teach regularly every week, or come once every few weeks for technique workshops.

MORE ABOUT EDUCATED LITTLE MONSTERS:
Educated Little Monsters is We Make Noise's community partner, offering arts and performance programming beyond our focus on music and instruments. Educated Little Monsters is a full performing, visual arts program servicing youth from toddler age to 23 yrs old in under invested communities, starting in Bushwick, Brooklyn in 2013.

Our program offers Dance, theater, art, Hip Hop, Music, photography, fashion and so much more. ELM is a very youth led program working in highly gentrified communities where natives are being displaced at an alarming rate. Our program is an artistic outlet for youth of color to become socially responsible and aware about the changes affecting them in their communities through all forms of art, and use it as a tool to tell their stories.

The goal of our program is to create enough artistic resources for youth everywhere that will empower them to be the next leaders in their communities for the generations after.

Its takes a village to raise a child as it takes a child to raise a village.
